Background of the Customer

The customer is a globally recognized premium automotive manufacturer specializing in the development and production of passenger vehicles, electric mobility solutions, high-performance drivetrains and advanced automotive technologies. The company combines cutting-edge engineering, digital innovation and highly automated manufacturing processes to deliver vehicles that emphasize performance, safety, efficiency and sustainability, establishing itself as one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers.

What was the requirement?

The customer launched a bidding process for a complete turnkey project covering 12 end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) units, seeking the best overall value — including know-how and service — compared to competing offers.

Our offered Solution

We won the bid and delivered a full turnkey project, assembling twelve different pick-and-place heads, one for each tool. To meet the customer’s special requirements, we used PIAB HNBR non-marking suction cups designed for high temperatures, needed due to the subsequent surface treatment of materials such as ABS, PP and PC. All sprue-removal grippers were controlled via an electrical signal consolidated into a single output, using FP sensor boxes. As an innovation, a passive sensor box from Murr was installed on a single gripper, saving space and offering a simpler solution for two sets of grippers — resulting in additional cost savings and increasing the project margin. M8 threaded connectors allowed quick replacement of sprue grippers without modifying the electrical wiring, and the robot mounting was built around the standardized SeproBP120 component.

What was the benefit for the customer?

The customer received a complete, ready-to-use turnkey solution across all 12 tools, precisely matched to their technical and material requirements. Beyond meeting the standard specifications, the innovative passive sensor solution delivered additional cost efficiency and a simpler design for part of the system, while the consolidated electrical control, quick-swap sprue grippers and standardized mounting made the overall system easier to maintain and adapt.
