The customer is a global leader in automotive technology and manufacturing, specializing in complete vehicle systems, body and chassis components, powertrain solutions, seating, electronics and advanced driver assistance technologies. With extensive engineering expertise and an international manufacturing network, the company partners with leading vehicle manufacturers to deliver innovative, high-quality and sustainable mobility solutions.
The customer’s existing Gimatic gripper had become unreliable, showing significant play over time. While the initial idea was to replace only the moving parts, it became clear that a completely new gripper solution was needed to ensure reliable, precise operation going forward.
We designed and assembled a new gripper built from carefully selected components across multiple suppliers. The base plate is a SAS GPM 1 SA model (100 x 100 mm) with internal air/vacuum supply channels — a feature not available from any other supplier. To meet the customer’s requirement for flexibly mounted parallel grippers, we used the Gimatic VMK14 component, with the parallel grippers and jaws supplied by MP LINE. The remaining parts came from FP, and fittings from Camozzi.
The new gripper eliminated the play and reliability issues of the previous solution, delivering stable, precise gripping performance. By sourcing the optimal component for each function from across multiple specialized suppliers, the customer received a robust, purpose-built solution rather than a compromise based on a single vendor’s product range.
